About:
Jet Le Parti's emergence as an artist was anything but traditional. Raised in a military family in the American South, his early life revolved around sports, particularly baseball, which ultimately led him to the University of Pennsylvania. Unbeknownst to him, this would be the catalyst for his artistic development.
Philadelphia's rich cultural landscape, a stark contrast to his upbringing, exposed Le Parti to renowned art museums and diverse creative spaces. The city's underground nightlife further ignited his curiosity. During his years at the university, he prolifically produced art and shared it online with a small audience.
After graduating with a philosophy degree, Le Parti briefly pursued graduate studies in New York City but quickly grew disillusioned with academia and the larger art world. He instead delved into socioeconomic studies, fixating on sociology, analysis of late stage-capitalism, and existential thought. His art transformed, moving from vibrant expressionism toward a more minimalist aesthetic. Despite personal challenges, this period proved formative for both his art and his life.
Navigating New York's art scene, Le Parti lived in warehouses, selling his work and that of his peers. Financial pressures and a yearning for community led him to organize DIY parties and exhibitions within his Brooklyn studios. These experiences laid the groundwork for Base 36, a project encompassing a gallery, label, production house, and publishing mission.
Le Parti's paintings showcase meticulous attention to detail and a fascination with the interplay of imagery and information. His canvases become arenas for dialogue between academic disciplines, cultural influences, historical references, and critical perspectives. The result is work that is dense with meaning and narrative, offering viewers a multi-layered experience. His style is dynamic and refuses to be confined, often resembling a collage of scientific research, mythical metaphors, analytical annotations, and raw emotional expression.
As a poet, Le Parti's writing traverses free verse and lyricism, exploring the existential and philosophical themes present in his visual art. His sound projects range from minimalist and avant-garde to sample-rich compositions, incorporating elements of drone, ambient, classical, and spoken word. His DJ work and production span genres such as techno, drum and bass, minimal, and industrial.
