Jet Le Parti / About:

About:

Jet Le Parti's entry into the arts was unconventional & far removed from the traditional path of an idealized painting prodigy. Born into a military family in the American South, Le Parti's early life was characterized by a strong focus on sports, particularly baseball, which played a significant role during his youth. This athletic pursuit led him to the University of Pennsylvania, a choice that would unknowingly set the stage for his future endeavors.

In Philadelphia, Le Parti encountered a vibrant cultural landscape that contrasted sharply with the limited & conventional artistic exposure of his childhood. The city, known for its affluent, progressive-leaning recent history, opened up new worlds for him through its renowned art museums and diverse cultural spaces. This coupled with, the city’s eclectic underground nightlife scene combined to ignite Le Parti's initial artistic curiosities. Through the following years, while enrolled, he'd go on to produce an extensive body of works and began sharing them through a limited internet presence.

Upon graduating, he moved to New York City to attend graduate studies at New York University but abruptly dropped out after a brief exposure to the city. This period marked a critical juncture in his artistic journey and life, heralding a shift in perspective on institutional work and a general disillusionment with mainstream culture and the arts. His intellectual focus shifted to exploring themes in socioeconomic studies, sociology, hyper-capitalism, and existential thought. Artistically, his work transitioned from vibrant, expressive themes to a more minimalistic-influenced approach. Despite its difficulties, this phase became a profoundly informative and shaping time in both his artistic practice and personal life.

During this time in New York, he lived between commercial warehouses and pursued an impromptu path as an independent artist, curator, and indirect dealer of his and his peers' works. Financial pressures and his longing for authentic community engagement led him to start organizing DIY warehouse parties within his artist studio in Brooklyn. In addition to this, he would begin to produce his own exhibitions and group showings simultaneously. These experiences were instrumental in shaping the foundational concept of Base 36, which would later emerge as a comprehensive project encompassing a gallery, a label, a production house, & publishing mission.

In his paintings, Le Parti demonstrates hyper-obsessive attention to detail and a fascination with the interplay of imagery and information. He treats his canvases as conduits for a complex dialogue between various academic disciplines, cultural influences, and critical perspectives. This approach has resulted in canvases that are dense with compounded meaning and rich in narrative, offering viewers a multi-layered experience. His work can also be characterized by its dynamic nature, never settling into a single style or mode of expression. His works often resemble assemblages of notes and ideas, where scientific research, mythical metaphors, analytical annotations, and visceral expressions of subjective experiences coalesce.

As a Poet, Le Parti navigates various styles, from free verse to lyric poetry, often blending elements of both. His written work delves into existential and philosophical themes, echoing the motifs found in his visual art.

In his sound projects, Le Parti explores minimalist and avant-garde styles, incorporating drone, ambient, classical, spoken word, and sample-rich elements into his production. On his side work as a DJ and producer, his electronic production encompasses a broad spectrum of genres, including techno, drum and bass, minimal, and industrial sounds.
